People think a spiritual life is a part-time job. They think it’s an adult education class one takes at a college to break up the week. They don’t realize that every breath we take is sacred and every life situation offers us an opportunity to grow. They never ask the following questions: Can I distinguish between illusion and reality? Do my thoughts move like a pendulum from the past to the future? Do I live my life in the present? Is my heart open? Is my mind quiet? Is there forgiveness and tolerance, the ability to like myself and to love other people? A spiritual life begins with each and every person’s need to connect with higher energy; it begins with the realization that life is sacred, that every breath we take is sacred, and the only thing missing from the mix is one’s consciousness.
